Aristide Flees, Haiti Renamed 'Lovi' by Scott Ott (2004-03-01) -- Just hours after Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide fled to exile in Africa, the new interim ruler of Haiti announced a proposal to rename the island republic 'Lovi'. "Image is everything," said Supreme Court Chief Justice Boniface Alexandre, the interim president. "For years our people have suffered the low self-esteem that comes with the name Haiti. No wonder they have turned to voodoo and violence, rather than responsible self-governance." Donate | More Satire | Printer-Friendly | |
