From a Twitter tweet that caught fire to a wearable symbol of American freedom in 60 minutes or less. That’s what happened today. ScrappleFace editor Scott Ott sent a tweet at 2:05 p.m. that said simply:
Dear Congress,
You Cap Us,
We Trade You.
Love,
Your Boss

In minutes, the message began multiplying, and new ScrappleFace Twitter followers cascaded in.

Now you can buy the t-shirt and send a clear message about elected officials who try to limit your freedom. (Available in White, Yellow and Green.)

I can definitely relate to the sentiment…but I’ve got enough t-shirts.

    Too many, actually… :-(

Here’s an interesting excerpt from the Wall Street Journal’s Op-Ed page (courtesy of the TrackBack above):

“Even as Democrats have promised that this cap-and-trade legislation won’t pinch wallets, behind the scenes they’ve acknowledged the energy price tsunami that is coming. During the brief few days in which the bill was debated in the House Energy Committee, Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%. Democrats defeated all of them.

How do we revive the economy by significantly raising the price of…everything?

Yes, this is the variant of that redistribution thing that BHO really had in mind last year, he misspoke.

So, the only extant copy of the 1,200-page bill has vanished, eh? And they’re still going to vote on it, eh?

I’ll bet it’s over there with that pesky birth certificate.

  • 5 Laughing@You // Jun 27, 2009 at 3:11 pm

    “pesky birth certificate”

It’s not the birth certificate that is pesky, it’s the crackpots who say it is pesky?

    Everthink?

    JQ,

    Re: 3

Pleease guy, no matter how Republicans flap their arms and run around in circles yelling hysterically, the sky is not falling, they are just trying to get attention.

They must be afraid they will be forgotten, because they know America is trying to get past the bad memories they left us with!

Even if all the flap should prove to be true it can’t help Republicans. Because Democrats are not about to throw a rope into the Republican pit.

We bound those devils, and we intend to keep them there!

    Everthink?

    L@Y says:

“…no matter how Republicans flap their arms and run around in circles yelling hysterically, the sky is not falling, they are just trying to get attention.”

I thought the “Chicken Little” role was more up the Democrat’s alley?

  • 8 egospeak // Jun 27, 2009 at 9:21 pm

L@Y, in response to JQ pointing out that Democrats defeated 3 amendments proposed by Republicans to suspend the cap and trade bill if it caused energy prices and unemployment to skyrocket said:
“… no matter how Republicans flap their arms and run around in circles hysterically, the sky is not falling…” and, “Even if all the flap should prove to be true it can’t help the Republicans. Because Democrats are not about to throw a rope into the Republican pit.” It is fascinating what this says about congressional Democrats in general and L@Y in specific.

If the first quote is true then why was it necessary to defeat the 3 amendments? If the second quote turns out to be true, it just more proof (as if more were necessary) that Democrats are more concerned with playing politics and accruing power than living up to their professed concern for the common man and the less privileged.

As for L@Y it is just more evidence that in addition to not being able to understand irony he is apparently unable to understand logic and a simple argument. Or perhaps he is simply showing his true colors.

    Regards,

Egospeaksays: “It is fascinating what this says about congressional Democrats in general and L@Y in specific.”

I am shocked, shocked I tell you, that Egospeak would imply that Democrats, or I, would use political advantage to leverage Republicans out of the way of progress!

To quote one of your great leaders: “You asked, do I feel free. Let me put it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it. It is my style. That’s what happened in the — after the 2000 election, I earned some capital. I’ve earned capital in this election — and I’m going to spend it for what I told the people I’d spend it on, which is — you’ve heard the agenda: Social Security and tax reform, moving this economy forward, education, fighting and winning the war on terror”.

The Republican notion of bipartisanship seems to have evolved greatly from the time Mr. Bush made that statement in November of 2004, two days after he won reelection by a “Swiftboat”, 2% margin over Mr. Kerry (as you claim).

Since Mr. Obama won election by over 7%, he must have 3.5 times the political capital of Dumbyah, but it appears he intends to spend it far more wisely than the chimp.

“Republicans offered three amendments: one to suspend the program if gas hit $5 a gallon; one to suspend the program if electricity prices rose 10% over 2009; and one to suspend the program if unemployment rates hit 15%.”"

Republicans created our problems as a result of deregulation (don’t waste your effort), and the near collapse occurred on Bush’s watch!

Since the election, Republicans have decided they should have a 50% say, even though they are 20% behind the Democrats in the Senate, and most of their actions have been little more than obstructionizm.

If they had any good ideas they had eight years to prove it!

The Republican Party has created chaos when in office, and there is no reason to expect different behavor now that they are out.

    Everthink?

    egospeak,

You also went on to say: “As for L@Y it is just more evidence that in addition to not being able to understand irony he is apparently unable to understand logic and a simple argument.”

Well, kind heart, I do the best I can with the little the Good Lord gave me to work with.

“Or perhaps he is simply showing his true colors.”

You must be confusing me with either a Republican Governor, or a Republican Senator (you have several to choose from).

And say, egospeak, regards right back at yuh!

    As ever,

    ET
