Marines ‘Massacre’ Trial Inspires Qaeda, Sadr

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 103 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2006-12-22) — A day after eight U.S. Marines were charged in connection with the killing of 20 Iraqi civilians in Haditha last November, al Qaeda and Shiite cleric Moktada al-Sadr announced they would begin prosecuting their own fighters who “inadvertently cause civilian deaths” in a series of “jihadi atrocity trials.”

On the morning of November 19, 2005, Marines in a convoy responded to an ambush that killed a member of their unit by conducting a house-to-house search for enemy fighters, who often hide among women and children, and always dress as civilians. If convicted by a military tribunal of unpremeditated murder, four of the Marines charged could face life in prison.

In a joint statement, Mr. al-Sadr’s Mahdi Army and al-Qaeda in Iraq said, “If the Great Satan can bring its troops to justice for violating rules of engagement, then so can we. It’s against our rules and our religion to inadvertently kill innocent civilians in war time.”

“We will prosecute any suicide bomber who accidentally, rather than intentionally, kills civilians,” the statement said. “We have sent them to commit premeditated atrocity and massacre and we expect them to operate according to those rules of engagement.”

The terror groups acknowledged they may have to conduct some of the trials posthumously, “but if any of our martyrs are found guilty, we can always execute justice on their surviving relatives.”

Yeah, execute justice. Why don’t we just fight with both hands tied behind our backs? Would that be fair?!

  • 3 MargeinMI // Dec 22, 2006 at 8:17 am

Would these trials also apply to the children suicide bombers who may not have the technical ability or cognitive ability to not ‘accidentally’ go off before they’re supposed to?

Sorry folks, but sometimes BITING satire HURTS! OUCH!

    New ‘Rules of Engagement’…

When your buddy has been shot and the insurgents run into a house, politely knock on the door and say “Avon calling”.

If someone answers the door, try to sell them some blush or rouge. Tell them you have more samples out in your Humvee. Escort the shooter outside and say, “Hey! Look at those dry rough hands!” When they raise their hands to look, slap on the nylon cuffs.

If no one answers the door, say “We’ll leave some free samples out here.” Then snicker and wait for the unsuspecting shooter to open the door and grab his loot. Follow the same procedure as above.

One certain truth we learn from this (if there are any of us who didn’t already know) is that so far, the terrorists have yet to accidently kill their first innocent civilian.

Here’s a thought – can these Marines use the “when in Rome” defense?

  • 9 JamesonLewis3rd // Dec 22, 2006 at 9:05 am

    (Rhetorical) Query:

Why is it that the “innocents” that are killed (and I’m sure there are some–children, mostly) are killed as a direct result of war crimes being perpetrated by the enemy left out of the discussion (and I don’t mean here)?

  • 10 JamesonLewis3rd // Dec 22, 2006 at 9:06 am

  • 11 upnorthlurkin // Dec 22, 2006 at 9:15 am

Shelly, You mean taking off their uniforms, hiding behind women and children, etc….?! Not gonna happen. Frustrating isn’t it? How can anyone compare this war to any other war? This is NOT a fair fight!! That our side would make any rules hampering our guys’ ability to fight and win against this most cowardly of enemies is beyond me. Who’s running this darn war anyway?!

  • 12 Shelly // Dec 22, 2006 at 9:15 am

RE: 9, it is frustrating, isn’t it? Our troops get villified, and the people blowing up school buildings are called “freedom fighters.” I become more and more convinced that this country is losing its mind.

  • 13 SeaDog // Dec 22, 2006 at 9:38 am

To my way of thinking, “murder” is a congress and Pentagon that sends its warriors into battle with ridiculous & idiotic “rules of engagement” which indangers their own lives. Our government should be on trial for the unnecessary deaths of its own men. They did it in ‘Nam, and they’re doing it in this war also. Ruthless, vicious, overwhelming force makes war end faster and saves many more lives, ours, the enemy, and the innocents. This “kinder & gentler” crap, imposed by a congress full of “civilized” jerks, most of whon never wore the uniform of our Country for a single minute, only serves the press, and the liberals who hate the military that protects them while they dismantle our Country from within. God help America.

  • 14 camojack // Dec 22, 2006 at 9:48 am

R-i-g-h-t. It’s like those civilian body counts; everyone’s a civilian if they don’t wear a uniform…sure they are. Achmed an insurgent/terrorist? Why, he’d never hurt a fly! Yeah, I’m buying that. Got any bridges you wanna sell, while we’re at it?

  • 15 Analchord // Dec 22, 2006 at 10:15 am

The jihadists are using cellphones to detonate IEDs. What cellphone towers are still standing? THey must be handling a lot of traffic. What if the line’s busy? “If you are attacking a US convoy, press one”. ANd what about range? “Can you kill me now? Can you kill me now? Can you kill me now?”

note: I wrote that for my brother in law who was in afghanistan at the time, and he used to at an open mike nite there and he killed with it. I mean he says he rocked, daddyo. (he was performing at an all-taliban nite club, but even al queda let’s their hair down after last call to prayer. Strange world, eh? ) This bit is over three years old. But it seemed somehow appropriate here.

  • 16 da Bunny // Dec 22, 2006 at 12:28 pm

#11 “who’s running this darn war, anyway?”

The LSM in conjunction with the PC crowd. All those desktop “Generals” at the NYT/CNN, et al, are holding the spineless pols hostage to the “cut and run” tactic. No beheadings to fear, just character assassination and the ruination of one’s political “career” if adherence to the “party line” isn’t followed.

  • 17 Beerme // Dec 22, 2006 at 12:35 pm

    Analchord,

That was a funny bit! Perhaps a Vonage ad knockoff with jihadists blowing up themselves prematurely, set to the “people do stupid things” music, “hoo-hoo hoo-hoo-hoo”!

  • 18 jpa // Dec 22, 2006 at 12:41 pm

    2 Samuel 11: 14-15:
14 In the morning David wrote a letter to Joab and sent it with Uriah. 15 In it he wrote, “Put Uriah in the front line where the fighting is fiercest. Then withdraw from him so he will be struck down and die.”

Seems our leaders did not learn from David’s great mistake. Sadly, there is nothing new about military men being being betrayed by those they serve. My brother suggests that there should be a “Uriah the Hittite” medal award to all soldiers upon enlistment. Let us pray that this great injustice is reversed and the men set free.

In other news, it is said that music soothes the savage breast (or is it beast?). As such, good news is emerging in Iraq as a duo of Sunni and Shia have formed a rock group to quell misunderstandings.

From the report, we have this update:

Bahja says he’s written three songs thus far. “The first song I wrote was ‘I Gut You Badr,’” he said. “It is an ironic song of revenge gone awry. The second song I wrote was ‘The Bleat Goes On,’ It’s about the lonely nights of a shepherd. The last song I’ve completed so far is ‘Baba Don’t Go.’ In this one a girl pleads with her boyfriend to give up his plan for a suicide bombing.”

Naturally, the duo plans to perform as “Sunni & Shia.”

Don’t miss out on the other no-spin news by John Semmens at the Semi-Report.

God does, indeed, answer prayer. What a blessing.

After reading this, my prayers are for us all–for our families, our friends, our loved ones; for the lonely, the friendless, the unloved–and have a new urgency.

I’m not paranoid, nor am I afraid–I will fight to the death for I know my ultimate fate–but my heart goes out for those who will be taken by surprise, who will be terrified, who will be grief-stricken, who will feel a hopeless, confused desperation.

I see the very face of satan behind these words of incomparable hatred punctuated by the rancid breath of hell itself.

The battle lines are being drawn, the gauntlet thrown down, the line scratched in the sand.

Dear Lord, as we remember Your Precious Gift to us this blessed holiday, forgive us, have mercy on us, may the Holy Spirit strengthen us to persevere in the Holy Name of Jesus.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.~~Ephesians 6:10-18

(Probably my longest post to date–I couldn’t help it)

    God Bless You and Yours

  • 33 Ghoti // Dec 22, 2006 at 11:35 pm

OLA, if music soothes the savage breast, why don’t I feel soothed when my wife “harps” at me?

I didn’t want to post a prayer request while we were all pre-occupied with concern for Ms RightWing (upnorthlurkin, your generous efforts of concern were greatly appreciated), but now that that prayer has been answered:

My best friend, fellow band director, and one of my old Air Force buddies, is quite sick. He is a tremendous musician – pianist for Boots Randolph for many years, arranger for every kind of group from Rock to the London Symphony, a great teacher, a faithful friend, and an inspiration for all who know him. Gary has been battling lung cancer for several months, his weight is down from 195 to 123, and now he’s hospitalized with seizures because the cancer has gone to his brain (and throat). He’s a fighter, and says he’ll beat it, but things aren’t looking good right now.

He’s a life-long Democrat, and even now (when conscious) loves to goad me about the Bush administration. His sense of humor is still active – it is his sincere wish for his tombstone inscription to say “Toldja I was sick!”

He’s now asking for prayers for himself and his wife, and I know that if it is His will, nothing is beyond the power of our Creator. The last time I asked for prayers on this site, they were answered (at least thus far): If any of you remember, my nephew was to be court-martialed this month for a ridiculous incident in Iraq. That court proceeding has been postponed, and cancellation is being considered.

I know it’s yet another selfish request, but your prayers would be much appreciated.

May God bless each and every one of you with a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2007.

Hi Marge. I lived in Mich. for ten years in the 70’s. Detroit. Went to Wayne State University. Worked as an accountant. What was I thinking? You must be in a more rural area where it’s nice. There are some nice areas in Mich. In fact some early explorer said that as he traveled the Detroit River and was the first to see it’s banks, he claimed it was the prettiest sight he’d ever seen. How did he not see Boblo? What was he smoking? Anyway, Merry Christmas.

Going to Frankenmuth for Xmas dinner, again??

  • 42 MargeinMI // Dec 23, 2006 at 8:56 am

I grew up in Detroit, left in ‘78 and never looked back (except when I worked downtown in the mid 80’s). I’m a bonafide country girl now. I’m ignoring the 3 generation rule and declaring myself a local after 10 years. Michigan is indeed a beautiful state, and you usually don’t have to go too far to see it.

I must confess, I’ve never been to Frankenmuth except as a rest stop on my way up 75. I’ll let that one slide too, as I AM a 5th generation Michigander on my dad’s side. ;)

  • 43 Analchord // Dec 23, 2006 at 9:10 am

We were neighbors? My grandmother came to detroit in the 20’s. (East Outer Drive). My mother married my dad after WW2 and I was born an airforce brat in Lansing Mich. 1951. We traveled all over the world until, in 1970, my dad was sent to ‘nam. (He’s fought three wars in the air force).

I went to wayne state because my mother stayed with my grandmother in detroit waiting for my dad to come home. I wanted to be with her, and turned down my chance to go to michigan state. Very, very much regret that decision.

What’s wrong with Frankenmuth? My grandma used to regale us with all the wild times she had dining there with her 11 sisters. (catholicism is not pretty).

Hope your with family for this holiday season.

  • 44 MargeinMI // Dec 23, 2006 at 9:30 am

Sorry, I was a West sider. To this day, I get lost east of Woodward unless I’m on Gratiot or I-94 (in the city). I never said there was anything wrong with Frankenmuth, just never had the occasion to go there. I hear they have an indoor water park that’s awesome. A great weekend getaway in February.

My mom got her masters in education at Wayne about the time you were going there.

Yes, we’ll be traveling to the west side of metro Detroit on Christmas Eve to spend with extended family. Lots of good eats, some caroling around the piano, and doing our new tradition of the ‘Dollar Store Gift Exchange’ (each person brings 3 gifts; everyone draws numbers–#of people x 3–and takes turns picking and opening. The next can pick a new gift or steal something that’s already been opened. It’s lots of fun and I’d recommend it to all families.) The hard part is the drive home (1 hr. 15 min.), but I REALLY want to wake up at home with my boy on Christmas morning.

I hope you have a wonderful holiday, too. Merry Christmas!

The Donald is going down in flames. Rosie’s comments were at least funny. trumps are only crude, and baseless. Worse, he’s using his charity work with injured Iraqi vets as proof that he’s correct about Rosie. He’s actually couching troop tragedies with Rosie bashing. “Rosie is a disaster both inside and out. I’ve got important work to do with injured troops who lost arms and legs, and Rosie is a liar and a totally unattractive person.”

Then, Trump dares to pretend to know about the reality on the ground in Iraq and he’s demanding we leave there tomorrow. Rosie teased the Donald, but Trump himself told me all I need to know about himself: he’s his own worst enemy.

did anyone see that fool sing “green acres” on an awards show last year? disaster, inside and out.

Frankenmuth happens to be WORLD FAMOUS a few years ago (so goes the story in the GR Press) honchos there strictly as a lark and to have some fun, entered the International Beerfest in Germany, packed up some light and dark and went over.

Much to their suprise (and every one elses) they scored 1st place in both catagories. Blue ribbons no less!

When I read this, I, of course had to try so I got a six pack – personally it’s better than Sam Adams but not as good as St. Pauli Girl.

Who would have figured? all those famous German and Austrian beers and Frankenmuth aced it! (Or so the paper reported).

One thing you can count on for Rosie, If she says its sweet – it’s sour; says blue – it’s redl says hot – it’s cold; says low – it’s high.

Her main contribution to the left? She makes Hillary look like a sane, Christian and Conservative! By comparison she makes Kennedy and Kerry look like born again Reagan Conservatives.

My main complaint with Trump is that he was such a wimp and said way too many nice things about her.

Good Morning all and to each

This, for me, is going to be a long journey back to health. I am from good Scandinavian stock so that helps but my pulmonary/MS condition walloped me all but good.

It is now 11:30 and I just got my pants on so you see how slow the body moves now. I am still so exhausted that Christmas will surely slide right passed me this year and I feel life is so much to be celebrated at this time of year, so tis’ sad.

There was no Christmas so to speak of in the hospital, likely to keep the patients from being discouraged. The TV offered no help as their channel selection was complete opposite mine. Sorry, I like old movies and mentally challenging shows like the History Channel. I knew if I didn’t get away from CNN that death would surely overtake me.

I am so sorry that I lost contact (perhaps Santa will bring me a laptop) but I had no idea when I went to the ER that I was so congested. My MS didn’t give me the power to push them old airways clean so steroid’s, steroids and more until they could get a clean airway.

My body started rejecting the meds the other day just as we were winning the battle so I did my best to get home where I could recoup at my pace. My friends, never have I felt so sick for as long as I can remember.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

I will attack this computer a bit at a time throughout the day and weekend. For now, it is time for the mail lady

    Peace and comfort

Ms. RW, may I too extend my prayers for your recovery and joy at hearing you’re back!

I have to echo camojack’s sentiments. Yesterday my family went to see The Nativity Story and it is absolutely wonderful. The theatre was mostly full (for the matinee) and at the end of the movie everyone just sat still in their seats for a couple of moments. It is that powerful. It’s been years since I’ve gone to a movie, because I usually figure I can just rent it in a few months for a few dollars and enjoy it in my home. My husband are considering going back to see this one a second time on the big screen because the cinematography is indescribable. I’ll definitely buy the DVD.

Wishing everyone at Scrappleface a blessed and joyous Christmas, as we celebrate the birth of our wondrous Savior.

Merry Christmas Ms Rightwing. Did you say you were from Sveden? Scandinavia? Either way, do you happen to have any older sisters for me?

Analchord- Are you going to be deported if you don’t get married? I’m just saying. Or do you just like older sisters?

    [Off-topic]

    To all my ScrappleFriends/Family:

I’m with camo–Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Christ is the reason for the Season, indeed.

The sad news: my mother passed away on December 21. She was 84 years old, a diabetic minus a pancreas, and doing well for someone of that age and condition, until a sudden and unexpected deterioration led to her death.

The good news: Christ is her Savior, and she’s with Him now. That’s what’s comforting me and those in my immediate family who are believers.

    Prayer requests:

    * Jesus will graciously console and comfort my family in their grief and sorrow.

    * We will get through the funeral service, a requiem Mass (she was Catholic), and the Mass will not be gloomy, but a celebration of her life.

    * Jesus will use the service and the scriptural readings (selected by me) to touch the hearts of all the unbelivers who will attend, and those readings will offer them hope in a season of sadness.

Thanks for your prayers. (“The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” [Jas. 5:16b])

    The Great Santini,

We offer you our prayers, kindest thoughts and profound brotherly love. The words “I’m sorry” feel so empty right now. Please know that your loss is Heaven’s gain. She is with God, and as He assembles His loved ones around Him, He knowingly celebrates His company. His Son, our Savior, is holding her in His embrace.

    Dear Great Santini,

Tomorrow evening I will be singing from Handel’s Messiah – He Shall Feed His Sheep Like a Sheperd, at the midnight mass. As I sing it, I will think of you and your mother. Your kindnesses are forever.

On behalf of my family, and from me, many thanks to my “virtual” family of Scrapplers, including those who took the time to “e” me personally, for your kind words of sympathy and for your prayers. They mean everything to me and to us.

    Merry Christmas to you all–

    Santini

  • 69 mig // Dec 24, 2006 at 5:40 am

    The Great Santini-
Youhave my prayers and condolences, as well as all the Scrapplers that had family members enter the Kingdom this year.

Merry Christmas Eve. The anticipation of the birth of Christ is a wonderful thing. Let everyone prepare a place in thier hearts for the Christ Child, the Infant Jesus. Take a few moments to ponder the event leading to his birth and the joy that he brought to the world and his parents. What a wonderful reminder for all of us that life, especially such that of an innocent and helpless infant is incredibly sacred and profound.

  • 70 Godfrey // Dec 24, 2006 at 6:14 am

Santini: sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. Mothers play such a special role in our lives; I miss my own mother terribly but I will always cherish the time I had with her.

I hope you and your family find contentment this Christmas in spite of your tragic loss.

  • 71 MargeinMI // Dec 24, 2006 at 7:03 am

Santini, Please know that my condolences and prayers are with you also.

Merry Christmas Eve you early birds!

No white Christmas here in NE Ohio, though the weatherman says something may happen Tuesday, likely more toward the snow belt.

It is awfully gray outside now, just wish the sun would shine, but this is Ohio.

    The Great Santini

So sorry to hear about your mother. It is always hard when people pass away over the Christmas season. She put her faith in the number one position so today it is Christmas forever for her.

To each and all an early Christmas eve smile. Hope those that can, get out and worship as one, for on this day only but one Christ was born.

    Hi Guys,
I am on the laptop, in the middle of Tennessee, halfway on our 16 hour trip to my parents’ home. It is a beautiful Lord’s Day and we are preparing to listen to our minister’s sermon on the laptop. I thought that I would check in before doing that.

And so I find that Ms Rightwing, Ink has been found, yeah! But not in good health and so the prayers will continue for you. It is awful to have to go through what you do, but at this time of year is a double whammy. Please take care and take it easy. Your spunk is amazing.

Santini, my thoughts are with you and your family as well. God blees you for your faith and your steadfastness. Losing someone we love is so hard. We know in our heart and soul that when they love Christ, that they are getting the great joy of coming face-to-face with Him, but our inner pain of missing that person is not lessened by that realization. I have always held onto the scripture out of Isaiah 57 that says that, though noone understands or comprehends, God takes the righteous to spare them from evil – that they find peace in death. Silly humans keep seeking peace on earth betweein men, not reading the word among men, in Luke, and realizing that Christ is the peace who walked among men, giving us a picture of what we will experience in His presence. This is such a hard time to lose your mom and my heart goes out to you. Blessings on your family.

And to everyone, have a Merry Christmas and a special time of honoring the memory of the advent to the greatest 33 years ever to occur in human history. Christ is the calm in the storm and the peace in the war – the life everlasting.

Santini,so sorry to learn of your Mother’s passing, but rest in knowing that she was a Christian. My mother also died on Dec.21 in 1995.It is still fresh in my memory esp.at this time of year.I can still rejoice in their homegoing.
I’ve been away from the computer for a few days due to family guests in the computer room so was saddened to learn of the sufferings and challenges of my long time Scrappleface friends.God Bless you both

Why you should be joyful Christmas morning!

    A Christmas Prayer
    by Robert Louis Stevenson

    Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
    the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

    Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
    which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

    May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
    with grateful thoughts,
    forgiving and forgiven,
    for Jesus’ sake.

    Amen.

Thought that this pretty well sums it all up.

    Merry Christmas, Everybody!

It didn’t feel like Christmas until I awoke this morning. Maybe there a chance I might survive this glorious day yet.

For those who have loving pets–an old Svedish proverb says that if you give your livestock an extra measure of feed on Christmas that luck will follow you through the new year.

Give Kitty or Rover a extra Friskie or Milk Bone too! (Or if you are lucky enough to live on a farm–give mooey and oinky some extra Purinaâ„¢)

From Wire Services: President Bush hugged a mullah today at the White House Christmas Easter Egg Hunt. Cheney accidently egged a friend on to engage the Muslim Community representatives who live near the White House. W spoke: “I order every single Catholic in America to go and hug a mullah, any mullah, anywhere. Just hug him.”

Poll: Will American Catholics hug their local mullah?

Poll Results: They’re smart-mobbing a mullah in Cleveland. They’re smart-hugging a mobster in Mullholland. They’re smart hugging a mullah in New York. (Everything’s better in New York).

Later a security camera caught Clinton in the rose garden mugging a hullah, and world hopes diminished.

    Merry Christmas, Sadr City………D’OH!

Praise God she is with our great Lord and Savior now, knowing no infirmities and only knowing a peace and rest which surpasses all comprehension.

Godspeed to you and yours. Belated Merry Christmas to one an all … “Peace on Earth to men* of goodwill!”

Well boy, “Mommie” died several years ago, and I never did live in her basement. I have served my country, and I have raised three sons, one of whom also served.

Most of what I have posted here has been proven true, although I haven’t paid much attention to your particular silliness, most other views posted here have not. In fact, most of what’s expressed here has been very destructive to America.

Quit yer whining! If you want to try to sound tough, get a new handle “Libby Gone” sounds kinda “Girlie” to me. Know what I mean Vern?

I just heard ABC is changing the name of their show, “The View” to, “I Love Rosie”.

The new show will star Rosie as a Cuban bandleader with her ’significant other’ in a supporing role as a stay at home mom who wants to break into show business.

Sound familiar? And no I am not talking about Rosanne Barr and Tom Arnold!

The show will borrow from the old “I Love Lucy” grapics at the begging and end of the show, with the announcer stating at the end, “I Love Rosie is a lesi-du production!”

  • 100 Harry Daschle // Dec 26, 2006 at 7:33 pm

Have you seen those new commercials for Combos snacks that state, “It’s what your Mom would feed you if she were a man!”

I bet this is what Rosie O’Donnell feeds her kid. It would fit, but you would have to pry Rosie’s hands off any food she holds first, and that would be about as hard as getting food away from Michael Moore, booze away from Ted Kennedy, or drugs and his PC, away from everstink!

Good luck with ANY of those scenarios!

T.F. Boggs is a 24-year-old sergeant in the Army Reserves. He’s now back home from his second deployment to Iraq and wrote this opinion piece. If any critic, who has similarly put boots on the ground in Iraq, wants to disagree … let him/her respond now:

After watching the Iraq Survey Group press conference today I am a firm believer that all politicians are idiots. Okay well not all of them but they all have a problem understanding reality. If any politician is reading this now feel free to email me and we’ll go out for coffee and I’ll further explain. But I digress.

The Iraq Survey Group’s “findings”, or rather recommendations, are a joke and could have only come from a group of old people who have been stuck in Washington for far too long. The brainpower of the ISG has come up with a new direction for our country and that includes negotiating with countries whose people chant “Death to America” and whose leaders deny the Holocaust and call for Israel to be wiped from the face of the earth.

Baker and Hamilton want us to get terrorists supporting countries involved in fighting terrorism! If I am the only one who finds something wrong with that then please let me know because right now I feel like I am the only person who feels this way.

Not only are the findings of the ISG a joke but the people who led the group (Baker and Hamilton) treat soldiers like they are a joke. One of the main recommendations of the ISG is to send more troops to Iraq in order to train Iraqis so they can secure their own country, but they don’t feel that we (soldiers) are already doing a good job of that right now because “training Iraqis isn’t an attractive job for soldiers to do because it isn’t a career advancing job”. As someone who trained Iraqis from time to time I take personal offense to this thinking. In my experience soldiers clamored for the chance to train Iraqis. Any soldier who doesn’t think training Iraqis is worth their time because it isn’t a “career advancing job” shouldn’t be part in the war on terror plain and simple. …

I feel like all of my efforts (30 months of deployment time) and the efforts of all my brothers in arms are all for naught. I thought old people were supposed to be more patient than a 24 year old but
apparently I have more patience for our victory to unfold in Iraq than 99.9 percent of Americans. Iraq isn’t fast food–you can’t have what you want and have it now. To completely change a country for the first time in its entire history takes time, and when I say time I don’t mean 4 years.

Talking doesn’t solve anything with a crazed people, bullets do and we need to be given a chance to work our military magic. Like I told a reporter buddy of mine: War sucks but a world run by Islamofascists sucks more.

[...] There are gripes aplenty in the blogosphere about the reportage on the Horn of Africa, and the conditions that prevail there. Here are some from Ogre. He seems to share the “problem with” Muslims, especially the violent variety, that most of the world has. Hat tip, Basil. From the same source, there is this highly revealing story of certain people force-feeding girls, like geese. Still, it appears that this is almost the only place in Africa where girls are fed more than boys. Still, it appears that this is almost the only place in Africa where girls are fed more than boys. In related news, Don Surber reported that there are similar habits of mental onanism among our own “elites”. Sadly, we seem to imitate their side more than they do us, at least in the habits I should like to see them imitate.Anyhow, the “forces on the ground” ignored all the atmospherics and rapidly rendered them irrelevant by winning convincingly and quickly. (Note to self, take down Iran fast – that works.) NPR headlined it ““>Somalia Gov’t Gains Ground with Ethiopia’s Help“. More Ethiopia reorting showed up the next day, and the day after that, captioned “Islamic forces flee Mogadishu; government takes over Somalia’s capital”. Since then, things have continued to go swimmingly for the Ethiopians and their allies in the U.N.-recognized Somali government. That headline read, simply, “Somali PM Islamic fighters defeated” and the good news keeps flowing in. The Ethiopians promise to be gone within a fortnight or two. Wise planning. Let the Islamists fight over the carcass known as the non-Somaliland parts of Somalia. As I recall, when aid flows stopped after Black Hawk down, violence abated too, as there was little worth fighting for. That’s the way I see it anyways! [...]
