Bush Approves 700-Mile ‘Concept Fence’ at Border

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace · 131 Comments · · Print This Story Print This Story

(2006-10-26) — President George Bush today signed into law a bill that authorizes a 700-mile long “concept fence” on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The concept fence, a project approved but not funded by Congress, is similar to a concept car, administration officials said.

According to an unnamed bill sponsor, “The concept fence is an insurmoutable barrier that will shut off the steady, daily flow of illegal aliens invading our country to take our jobs, boost our crime rate, burden our social welfare system and potentially bear contagious diseases or weapons of mass destruction. The concept fence is impossibly high, supercharged with 1.21 jigowatts of electricity, and each mile is guarded by a battalion of National Guard troops and a squadron of A-10 Warthog fighter jets.”

If the concept proves popular, officials said, Congress may eventually fund the actual “production fence” which will be a three-foot high hedge of juniper bushes.

Human rights advocates responded to the new law by charging that the 700-mile fence would force undocumented workers to squeeze through the remaining 1,400 mile border gap, possibly causing lacerations and brush burns.

I wonder how Dems will vote on the production model? We know they were against the conceptual one. Scott has brought up something I have questioned before. If we have to allow illegal aliens into our schools, why can’t we require the same immunization records that are required of our own children?

I once had an itty bitty poodle. My back yard compound was fortified by a six foot, heavy duty wooden fence.Nicki(the itty bitty and very cute poodle)always found a way under the fence,no matter what I did.I eventually had to put him on a leash so he could do his business and not get out by digging under the fence.

My point is,a fence will not do the job without man-power to back it up.I don’t recommend a chain, but we need “boots on the ground” as they say.

  • 19 conserve-a-tip // Oct 26, 2006 at 10:24 am

Maggie, ha ha. Been there, done that.

We used to raise sheep and we had night pens in the pastures where we could round them up and put them overnight to keep them safe from predators. There was an 8′ chainlink fence around each pen. But knowing that dogs or coyotes could dig under that fence, we dug a deep trench around the perimeter of the pen, first, poured concrete into that trench, set the posts in the concrete and stretched the fence so that the base actually was a little long and scooped down onto the concrete. Didn’t have a single problem after that.

  • 20 conserve-a-tip // Oct 26, 2006 at 10:25 am

Darthmeister, will they be using illegals to build the fence, since it will be unskilled work that Americans won’t do?

  • 21 JDFlanagan // Oct 26, 2006 at 10:30 am

If they won’t go for a fence, how about a ditch? Maybe we could extend the Rio Grande out to the Pacific and call it a canal. We could take the dirt and fill in New Orleans, bring it above sea level. That would help solve two problems at once.

  • 37 Darthmeister // Oct 26, 2006 at 12:42 pm

Mexican government: This proposed fence is an embarassment on the part of the Estados Unidos.

No, what is an embarassment is the Mexican government’s inability to promote the general welfare of Mexico, creating jobs and an economy which keeps YOUR PEOPLE on YOUR SIDE of the border.

    AP – Washington
It is being reported that many Democrats had originally supported this measure to build a 700 mile fence along America’s southern border with Mexico. However when it was pointed out the bill was appropriating funding for a “concept fence” and not a “conception fence”, Democratic Party leadership decided the bill didn’t go far enough.

One Democratic party whip opined, “Look, if we can’t ensure that undocumented workers have the right to freely conceive even as they are crossing our borders in the dark of night, what kind of message does that send to the rest of the world? That Americans are still a bunch of red-neck, homophobic, xenophobic Victorian prudes? Give me France any day … except when Islamic youths are freely expressing themselves by torching automobiles.”

This sounds like a pretty cool reality TV concept (fence).

There would be two tribes, the Gringos and the Chicanos. The Gringos would be working to build the fence while simultaneously trying to keep the Chicanos from flooding across the border. The Chicanos would be using all kinds of distractions for the Gringos like getting the more liberal Gringos to propose free everything to Chicanos who manage to get through.

    Nah, nobody would believe it…

The Mexican opposition to, and feigned outrage toward, the construction of this (largely symbolic, in my opinion) fence is fueled by the fence’s graphic representation of their own ineptitude as a government, as a failed society–demonstrating their corrupt culture.

Their country instills in them the desire (indeed, encourages them) to cheat our government (getting paid under the table to avoid taxes), steal hand-outs (lying about income to get “free” services) and falsify documents in order to facilitate their crimes.

If they are so concerned about their citizens, they should employ a million or so of those who are fleeing their country and post them along the border to stop the flight. As it is, it seems that they are just as convinced as the illegal aliens that they have a “right” to live here and suck the life out of our economy as they have their own.

They keep talking about how these Mexicans are doing jobs that Americans “won’t” do. I deny that assertion and maintain that they have pushed Americans out of many jobs that had, until recent times, been performed by Americans for decades if not centuries.

OK, I am back from town and thought that I would see if I am me. If I am not, I want to know who I am. It just dawned on me! Scott is giving us a taste of what a “concept” is so we will understand the “concept fence”. We are just concepts! Scott, I wanna be real.

The drug smuggler goes free and the border agents go to prison. Bring on the Vandals and the Goths.

  • 96 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 5:10 pm

Can we just build a fence around DC instead? It will keep good people from going there and having their souls darkened with our money and keep the corrupted that are already there from returning to infect the rest of us with their insanity.

    Upnorthlurkin re:93

Watched her video and got tears going now.

Its funny how many American musical artists seem to be disinterested in making patriotic music at this time (Country groups excepted). There was a time when Hollywood and the various music creators around the country were glad to play for, and make music and films that bolstered our troops and families. They were proud of their country and they were proud to do it.

Schools are not teaching American history. Too many old dead white men I guess. Patriotic music is no longer played in schools. (When was the last time you heard a marching band play Stars and Stripes forever? I used to get chills playing that in High School.)

I know I risk sounding like an old f**t, but I think we’ve lost something very valueable when these things went by the wayside.

  • 100 Darthmeister // Oct 27, 2006 at 5:39 pm

What’s happening with Scrappleface’s posting problems is all Bu$Hitler’s fault.

The radical open-borders crowd will probably start referring to the fence as the “kkkoncept fence”.

  • 101 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 5:41 pm

Maybe we should crucify along the border the two hispanic border guards who will be sent to prison for trying to enforce our borders. That might discourage Mexicans from coming here if they think this is how Americans treat Latins.

Send in the Vandals and the Goths. America needs a spinal transplant.

  • 102 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 5:47 pm

Maybe Al Sadr can enforce our border? With his latest rabble and Al Malaki’s complicity he keeps the US military out of Sadr City.

Why is this thug still aive? Oh that’s right, we have no leadership in America except that which sends our own border guards to prison.

  • 103 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 5:49 pm

This waiting around for America to fall is getting quite trying. Should we vote for the Dhimmis to speed up the process?

  • 104 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 5:52 pm

And we bemoan the loss of this or that in our little online communities. Come on God either crush us or bless us. Hey, you are God and have no obligation to do either, but wait your Word says you will do one or the other. Get on with it.

Did you guys know both Telly Savalas, Lee Marvin, Charles Bronson, Audie Murphy, Don Adams, Jackie Coogan, Kirk Douglas, Jimmy Stewart, Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and a host of other Hollywood stars were actual WWII veterans who served in combat. Here’s a complete list of “public celebrities” and Hollywood stars who served in one of the branches of the American armed forces.

Name a modern liberal actor who has served in the military. Better yet, name a liberal actor who actually saw combat. And we wonder why Hollyweird is hostile to the military of this great nation.

  • 107 egospeak // Oct 27, 2006 at 6:09 pm

    Jericho,
    re #’s 101, 102, 103

Have to agree that what happened to those two border guards was a travesty. Bush should pardon them immediately and publicly. I would think it would do wonders for his approval ratings.

Just my opinion, but I think that if we went in and took care of Al Sadr in the manner I think you are implying, the opposition party would start screaming about war crimes and impeachment quicker than his body could assume room temperature.

By all means vote for the dhimmis to speed up America’s fall if that is what you really want. I’m sure their policy
prescriptions would lead to that. As for me, I’d like to hold off America’s fall for a while, so I’m voting Republican where I have to, and conservative where I can.

    Regards,
    egospeak

  • 110 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 7:03 pm

Ego – As to voting – I am obliged to Christ to vote Republistink as they are the better men. I have no conservatives for whom to vote.

  • 111 Jericho // Oct 27, 2006 at 7:07 pm

Ego – As for Al Sadr. We can’t kill him because the Dhimmis would object? Get upset? Impeach the President?

This is war. (Well, I guess its not war.) And as for the Dhimmis getting upset if keeping them in an amiable mood is our goal, well I would say that we have already failed.

    Jericho,

Excellent responses. Re #111, I bow to your superior wisdom. A minor quibble re # 104 and 109. In 104 it seems that you are demanding that God do one or the other, crush or bless. In 109 it seems (at least to me) that God is telling us what he will/is do(ing) and then telling us to choose one or the other, while letting us know what the best choice would be. A minor point.

    Regards,

    Creature sightings stir talk
    By Dave Olson, The Forum
    Published Friday, October 27, 2006

Pig-grabbing space aliens are the talk of Tappen, N.D., and beyond.

But Torrey Briese, whose family counts three close encounters with the inexplicable, doesn’t much worry what others think.

“Some people probably aren’t going to believe it. I’m not even trying to convince anybody. We know what happened,” said Briese, a member of the Tappen School Board whose family operates a ranch outside of town.

Briese and his wife, Myra, spoke Thursday of three strange occurrences experienced by family members in the past year, two of which were reported by their son Evan, 16.
